M-theory, short for membrane, is put simply a theory on multiple dimensions, beyond the four that we know and can measure and parallel universes

now it is no secret that particles have the ability to appear to be in two places at once, and if they are some where else, where exactly is this, so people began to imagine the existence of parallel universe for these particles to live, places for instance Napoleon won the Battle of Waterloo. In another the British Empire held on to its American colony. In one you were never born.

over the course of the last few decades physics has come up for many theories to explain the universe and everything but two theories wouldn't mesh this was the big bang theory (self explanatory) and string theory, that of which matter is made up of little strings, now string theory nearly began to self destruct but thats its own story whats interesting is the introduction of a similar theory - super gravity - and then the consequential nitpicking between side on how many dimensions there were, 10 or 11

now i no what your thinking i mentioned membrane theory at the start and have gone on a tangent but stay with me on this

and so it was said There was a war between the tenth dimension and the eleventh dimension. In the 10-dimensional bandwagon we had string theorists, hundreds of them, working to tease out all the properties of the known universe from one framework: a vibrating string and then we had this small band of outcasts, outlaws, working in the eleventh dimension

and guess what, the one thing that made the now 5 competing string theories make sense, the 11 dimension the string theorist conceded that, that extra dimension explained everything and they and super gravity started to complement each other

The tiny invisible strings of String Theory was supposed to be the fundamental building blocks of all the matter in the Universe, but now, with the addition of the eleventh dimension, they changed. They stretched and they combined. The astonishing conclusion was that all the matter in the Universe was connected to one vast structure: a membrane
